How do you write your own lyrics and song?

I decided to start writing my own music. I am a prodigy at playing piano and guitar however when i come to singing i'm just a toddler.

What are the fundamental basics of creating a song? I want to write a song about a girl perhaps.. I also would like to know does the music come first or lyrics?

What are the structures of a song?

How do you write your own lyrics and song?
I play guitar, and let me tell you that writing lyrics is 100x easier than coming up with music. The hardest thing to do-for me-is merging the music and lyrics together. The lyrics come first when I approach music. For you the music might come first and that's fine. There's no right or wrong way to go about writing, or creating music.

Really, a song, like a poem, starts with an idea: you have to get your story, message, and emotion across to the listener in 3 minutes-or 5.

The most common structure of a song is the "verse, verse, chorus, verse, verse, chorus". There may be a pre-chorus put in at times. Some songs have a bridge, which is an instrumental break before going into the chorus. You'll notice that some lyrics don't follow that structure, and that's ok. I don't follow the common structure sometimes. Be creative.

What I did before I started writing was make a list of the reasons why I liked the songs I liked: those reasons I wrote down I try and get into my own lyrics. I also wrote out a list of the things that inspired me. Pay attention to what's going on around you: most likely inspiration for a song is there if you look hard enough.
Reply:you just write it the same way you write a poem.
