What is the easiest and cheapest way to copywright song lyrics to protect myself, when I start sending "demos"

I write songs and want to send them out to various publishing houses and artist for consideration. But I dont want someone ripping me off.

What is the easiest and cheapest way to copywright song lyrics to protect myself, when I start sending "demos"
go to www.registermycopyright.com they charge $99.00 for one song, or a whole album/CD. depending on how many people are involved with writing it.

Mailing your song to yourself is not considered a legal way of copyrighting it.
Reply:u dun send all the songs at 1 go first, like juz send half of ur song or something. u can explain to them y u do it. then if they accept ur song then give them the whole lyrics when u meet them.
Reply:put a copy of the lyrics in an envelope and mail them to yourself. when the come in the mail do not open it because they are dated with a post office stamp. that way if someone ever claims the lyrics as theirown, all you have to do is show a judge the envelope and the case is closed. i had a friend who wrote songs and he did this. he called it "the poor man's copywrite". just a suggestion.
