For a poem in my creative writing class, I sampled a couple lines from a song. How do I cite the song? I'm not making a formal bibliography or anything. Should I just put at the end "Lines x-x sample from..."? The project isn't supposed to look formal so I don't want a works cited page.
How do I cite song lyrics?
I think the way you indicated is fine if you don't have to do anything formal.
Reply:By and large, poetry can steal blatantly from other works without giving explicit credit. However, if you're concerned about it a footnote citation is the least obtrusive. Right after the lines you've borrowed insert the footnote (a little star or one should come up, depending on your word processor), and at the bottom where it asks you to explain the footnote just cite the lines like you would in your works cited.
Reply:yes u just put lines x-x sample from.
if you really want to be sure, ask your teacher
