What do you enjoy most in a song, the lyrics or the melody?

I write poetry myself, and I appriciate good rhymes and good instruments. What do you notice most in your favorite songs? The way it's written, the lyrics, or just the voice of the singer?

What do you enjoy most in a song, the lyrics or the melody?
I think each of them are important. The song doesn't work without them.
Reply:I enjoy the music. I am a musician, multinstrumentalist, and composer, and I listen to a lot of instrumental music. It really touches my heart and soul.
Reply:Purely the music, rhythms, and riffs for me. I couldn't care less what the bands stand for or say as long as there is great music behind them. Example: I'd go for a Rob Zombie or a Marilyn Manson over a Relient K anyday.

I used to get embarassed all the time when I'd go to show my parents a new song I had been turned onto and only then realyzed how terrible the lyrics were.
Reply:i dont like either better. both are equally important.
Reply:I appreciate the way things are written and the vocal melody more than the lyrics. You can have brilliant lyrics, but if the vocal melody sounds anything like a Pink song I will tune it out.

And yes, I just went there. Pink can sing well, but is TERRIBLE when it comes to melody and rhyme scheme. That's just my two cents and I'll still love you if you disagree.
Reply:I enjoy the lyrics the most. That's why I'm mostly into country, because some of the songs really mean something instead of talking about ho's and drugs and things like that. I live my life by a song that has lyrics to match my current situation.
