If I want to publish my work, or send in my song lyrics to be used, where do I go? I really would like to know

I am a songwriter, and I write novels and fanfiction. If I want to publish my work, or send in my song lyrics, where do I send them to?

You can write lyrics and sell them but it's pretty tough because the competition will be selling a near finished or finished product. You could try approaching a particular artist with your lyrics and see if they'd like to use them but you should be prepared to give up no less than half of the publishing and probably all but 3% of the mechanicals.

Here's a good way to go about it. Buy an inexpensive electronic keyboard and learn some basic piano. (Casio makes a really good one that doesn't cost a lot: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/C... )

Put some melodies and chord changes to your lyrics and seek out a collaborator. Preferably a skilled instrumentalist. (Guitar, or Piano) and record your songs. There's plenty of options available but you'll have to research the best one for you.

Here's a cool place to start.

registration is free and there's a wealth of information at this site.

Good luck, and don't give up!
Reply:It isn't a song unless it is complete. If you are not able to do the music, check out songwriting websites where lyricists can collaborate with musicians and that kind of thing. It is a good place to learn about the business and you may find someone who will work with you. Even then, if you have a song that is finished and you think that Whitney Houston should be the one to sing it or some other supa star, well, you have to make a demo of it and then try and get a music publisher to listen to it. Another way to get your songs out there is to find a band that is up and coming and get them to record your stuff. That may help you to get your foot in the door.

Publishers for stories and such are not the same as music publishers, so you have to find ones that are accepting submissions, follow their guidelines and then maybe they will accept something. It is a long hard row to hoe, so good luck and don't put all your eggs in one basket. : )
Reply:im not sure where to publish work as your but if you ever write any poems you can publish them on poetry.com and compete in contests.
Reply:You don't. There is no one ho publishes just song lyrics. Youu need to have accompanying music. That field is VERY difficult and you usuallly need connecitoons and to know the right people. What I think you mean is that you are a writer of lyrics, but again, unless you have musical acocmpanying them, you are not going to go very far.
