Does anyone remember a bet the England football team had only to speak using song lyrics in interviews?
I think that it was for Euro '96, but I might be wrong (but around that time, it wasnt't recently - when Alan Shearer was playing international football)
Do you have a website link to some of their more memorable quotes?
Cheers

During the Vennables era of Euro' 96. All their post match interviews were lyrics from Abba songs, funny as fcuk at the time. I still haven't forgiven Southgate for that penalty miss.
Reply:I have not had anything like that but I know it could be true. The English always do crazy things off the pitch to attract attention to coverup the shortcomings on the pitch.
Reply:I think the answers all had to be Abba songs. I also think it was Euro 96
Reply:I am almost sure it was Japan/Korea 2002 World Cup. In interviews they had to come up with song titles and the person with the most won an amount.

How does one sell song lyrics that I wrote?
I wrote a couple of songs. Not music....just the lyrics. I think they are really great and was wondering how to go about selling the lyrics to bands, or whoever would be in a position to buy them.
How does one sell song lyrics that I wrote?
If your lyrics are good enough, you will earn royalties by letting bands interpret them .... that is how it works !
Reply:Best to check out the Official Marketplace for buying and selling lyrics.

Reply:Ebay music is a good start

Reply:First, make absolutely sure that they are copyrighted!!! Then you might be able to sell them to specific bands that you like. I know a girl that gave a band that I will not name here an envelope of her poems. They turned it into an entire concept album that sold millions, and she got nothing for it - not even a writing credit. If she had copyrighted it, the story might be different.
Reply:First get proof that they are your lyrics so they aren't stolen.

When do you have to pay royalties when using song lyrics in poetry/ fiction?
The lyrics are attributed to the bands/ songwriters that wrote them, I was just wondering if I can use any amount of the lyrics and not pay royalties. Once I heard you can use 5 lines without paying as long as you give credit, but I’m not sure I trust the source.
When do you have to pay royalties when using song lyrics in poetry/ fiction?
It aleays says not to be reproduced in anyay shape or form without permission. If it is being used commercially then no not one line without pay because if they let you then they must let everybody. If it is a few lines as a quote then likely OK if it is just used and not for profit. Much material has expired and is now public domain. You really need to check the copyrights in each case.

How much'd it cost to re-publish song lyrics for a book which'd also need to include a CD of this music?
I'd like to publish an educational book which is based upon the lyrics of well-known songs. The book would need to include a CD of original versions of all these songs.
All I need to know is a vague idea of cost to see if the idea is finacially viable.
How much'd it cost to re-publish song lyrics for a book which'd also need to include a CD of this music?
You will need to check with these people: http://www.mcps-prs-alliance.co.uk/about... if you are in the UK or there equivalent in the country you intend to publish.
Reply:I don't know exactly how much it would cost, but it could be very very expensive to license those songs for use from their copyright owners, like in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Especially if you have them on CD.
Reply:It depend upon the cost of buying songs.... Otherwise a CD costs US $ 0.25 %26amp; Book Publishing another US $ 0.25 in any part of the world.???
Reply:whatever the publisher pays

What do you people think of having song lyrics as a tattoo?
i mean the font is big thing.
but not like a full song but just maybe one quotation?
What do you people think of having song lyrics as a tattoo?
I think its a pretty cool idea as long as the song means something to you. I wouldn't just get some random song that I like. Like, let's say that you're married and your wedding song is (insert random song name here). That would be cool to get a quotation from that song, because it's important to you.
The only thing you'd have to worry about is placement. Its sort of hard to find a spot to do something like that, depending on how long the quote is. You might think about getting it on maybe your arm, or your chest, or your stomach?
Its a difficult decision, deciding on placement.
Reply:I like the idea. If it were me, I would pick out one specific line or chorus that meant something special to me. Because I'm a girl, I would probably have a girly type font like agnes or italic. Browse through different font sites and pick one you like.
I have seen some beautiful tattoos with song lyrics. One was a sleeve type that started at her shoulder and wrapped around her to her wrist.
Reply:its OK...as long as it not a cheesy lyric..and make sure it has a strong meaning to you...other wise in a couple of month you will regret it....
if i was you i would think about whether i really want some lyrics on my skin 4 DA REST MY LIFE...THINK ABOUT IT...try seein about wat else u can put there...like a symbol...
remember quote are cool if they mean somthing to you
Reply:i think its cool.
my brother had 1 line from each of his 10 favourite songs written into a new song across the top of his shoulder, it looks really good, and is a good talking point (the ladies love it!!)
Reply:I think its a great idea. I will actually be doing that sometime in the near future. Im getting lyrics from the song In my Life by The Beatles. Its for my dad who passed away.
Reply:I think it's lovely, if you choose the right quote and font.
Make sure you're really sure love that quote before you get it done, as you may get over it eventually.
Reply:I think it's great, as long as you can find a messge you know you won't regret. =)
Anyways, my next tat is going to be 'No lies, Just love'.
It's just a matter of finding out where to put it...
Reply:it has to mean the world to you i would go with the phrase that means the most to you
Reply:I almost did that, and now I'm glad I didn't. It's lame.

"Deireadh Fómhair...nuair a éirí ríochtaí agus titeann ríochtaí, ach téann tú ar aghaidh"

What are the copyright laws regarding the use of song lyrics in short story publications.?
Short story publications either in literary magazines or collection format. Is there a certain number of lines that can be used with only a footnote citation necessary? Or does any amount require permission?
Also, what about songs that are classic songs that have been performed by various artists. Specifically, a song like "The Old Rugged Cross" which is a classic gospel song that has been recorded by a number of artists.
What are the copyright laws regarding the use of song lyrics in short story publications.?
Most books I've seen that quote song lyrics have a note before the title page on the lines of:
"Permission to quote from "Have a great day" by Sentinel Publishing, copyright 1975"
The publisher of your story should be familiar with such requirements.
Try the ASCAP website, they may have guidelines
Reply:My understanding is that you need permission from the song's rights holder, and that's no simple task--especially for a short story. You are free to use the song's title in the story.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE OLD WEST……
Heroes and heroines are scarcer than they've ever been. The hero and heroine of this little story lived in the Old West, Dodge City, Kansas, Circa 1873.
Everyone knew Marshall Matt Dillon was sweet on the local school marm, Sunshine MacGillicutty. He was a little rough around the edges, and she was a fine lady from the East. Still, Marshall Matt couldn’t understand why Sunshine insisted he park his guns at the door whenever he came to call. She’d say, “You can just forget about your guns if you want to be my fella.“ Marshall Matt would always protest, “If you faced the danger I do everyday in my job, you‘d damned well be wearing guns! I’m the Marshall, damn it! I’m the law in these here parts, and I need guns to stay alive. The stagecoach drivers, the Pony Express riders, and I all have to be armed to do our jobs--in the rain and snow and sun and wind.”
Sunshine frowned, “There’s another thing I’ve been meaning to talk to you about, Matt! You need to take a bath oftener than once a year. I don’t know who smells worse, you or Old Paint. That nag and the dust and the dirt under outlaw skies have made you more than a tad gamey. Next time you come to call on me, I expect you to at least first take a swim in the river.”
Matt said, “You sure are stubborn, Miss MacGillicutty. I’ve thought for a long time that a piece of land and a stubborn mind were the only things worth having. I’ve already got the land; I just need a wife. Would you do me the honor of becoming the future Mrs. Marshall Matt Dillon?”
Sunshine smiled as she replied, “Best offer I’ve had all day. I accept, but I'm telling you right now, I don’t believe in long engagements.”
Matt continued, “I’ve got to escort a cattle rustler up North to Kansas City next week to stand trial. How ‘bout we get married when I come back? I could pick up a ring for you in Kansas City.”
Sunshine replied, “OK, I’ll give you a kiss before you go embarking on your odyssey, but I’m telling you right now, there will be no wedding night for you if you forget that ring! And, I also expect you to be clean shaven and bathed!”
“Adios, Muchacha,” exclaimed Matt as he jumped on Old Paint and headed off across the plain. Matt was so happy, he burst out in song, “I'm back in the saddle again. Out where a friend is a friend……..” The world was wide and a cowboy's song could span the whole horizon.

What are some song lyrics that everybody should know?
Give a listing of the song and artist for which you feel everybody should know at least part of the lyrics (since they are just that cool/popular/classic).
Choose any songs from the 50's onward that have a rockin' chorus or some clever rhymes.
Obviously this is a subjective question, but I will do my best to decide and put it up for voting if it is too close.
List away!

Sweet Song Lyrics or Poetry lyrics for a Scrapbook Theme?
I am making a scrapbook of my little girl's first year, for her birthday, and would like to use the lyrics to a sweet song or poem as the theme throughout. Any ideas? Thanks!
Sweet Song Lyrics or Poetry lyrics for a Scrapbook Theme?
Blessed - Elton John
Forever Young - Rod Stewart
Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder
My Girl - The Temptations
Baby Baby - Amy Grant
Also, if there are any songs you sing to her, no matter what they are, you should include them as well. She'll have a special connection to them as she gets older and starts to recognize that that was a song her mom sang to her (or played for her). "You Are my Sunshine" is a big one for my niece.
Here are some poem resources for you - you can find one that best fits your specific situation / feelings

MARTINA McBRIDE LYRICS
"In My Daughter's Eyes"
In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me gives me
strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes
And when she wraps her hand
around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about
It's hangin' on when your heart
has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daugter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she'll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy
she made me
For I'll be there
In my daughter's eyes

MARTINA McBRIDE LYRICS
"In My Daughter's Eyes"
In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me gives me
strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes
And when she wraps her hand
around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about
It's hangin' on when your heart
has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daugter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she'll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy
she made me
For I'll be there
In my daughter's eyes

İbrahim Tatlıses - Tek Tek (One By One)
Album: Tek Tek (One by One)
(x2)
Tek tek
Ağardı bak saçlarım tek tek
Tek tek
Damlıyor gözyaşlarım tek tek
Tek tek
Bıraktılar beni tek
(x2)
Bir de yarimin hasreti yüreğımde oldu ek
Şu bitmeyen dertlerimle tek başımayım ben tek
(x2)
Tek tek
Uçtu gönül kuşlarım tek tek
Tek tek
Terk etti tüm dostlarım tek tek
Tek tek
Bıraktılar beni tek
(x2)
Bir de yarimin hasreti yüreğımde oldu ek
Şu bitmeyen dertlerimle tek başımayım ben tek
(x2)
Tek tek
Çaldım dost kapısını tek tek
Tek tek
Tanıdım hepisini tek tek
Tek tek
Bıraktılar beni tek
(x2)
Bir de yarimin hasreti yüreğımde oldu ek
Şu bitmeyen dertlerimle tek başımayım ben tek
Bıraktılar beni tek
Bıraktılar beni tek
(x2)
One by one,
Look, my hairs have grayed, one by one.
One by one,
My tears are falling, one by one.
One by one,
They all left me alone.
(x2)
The longing for my lover is set deep in my soul.
I'm all alone with my endless sorrows.
(x2)
One by one,
The birds of my heart have flown away, one by one.
One by one,
All my friends have deserted me, one by one.
One by one,
They all left me alone.
(x2)
The longing for my lover is set deep in my soul.
I'm all alone with my endless sorrows.
(x2)
One by one,
I knocked on my friends' doors, one by one.
One by one,
Everyone I knew, one by one.

How can I get paid to ghostwrite song lyrics?
I'm tired of trying to find someone to put music to my lyrics. I know many musicians use ghostwriters, but how do I get started?
Any ideas would be appreciated!!
How can I get paid to ghostwrite song lyrics?
You need to hook up with a music producer, or a song writer. But then the music needs to be heard and recorded, which would require a marketing strategy.
Do you play any instument at all? You could become a member of a band, and put your lyrics to someone else's tunes. This is about your only alternative, besides paying someone else to do it.
Reply:Hi,
I have music but only some lyrics. My mind is lazy when it comes to musical lyrics for some reason. While I can't pay a ghostwriter, I could share the bounty. Do you live in New England by any chance?

How do I sell song lyrics to an artist, record company etc?
I have brillant lyrics for a complete song with tune. Need to know the secure way of placing it into the hands of an artist, record label, etc without the lyrics being stolen as someone else has wrote it, maybe even the artist. Also how do I sell it? What is the best advice for this?
How do I sell song lyrics to an artist, record company etc?
First copy write your song! second make the rounds you can go to each record label individually but chances of selling it are 99 percent against you truthfully the best way to do it is to get a up and comer to use it in their act and if a label sees them they may or may not like it but at least it will be out there. Good Luck I hope it works out.
Reply:go to the record label and physically meet WITH THEM.
Reply:look up an agent and they can help you i wrote a poem and it got in other hands and they made a song out of it and got the credit so sign a paper so it wont happen to you to

I am a song writer and I would like to do this professionally. How do I go about Copyrights and Publishing of my song lyrics. ASCAP was mentioned to me as a excellent source for publishing, but I am lost. Is there anyone or anywhere online that can go that would be able to explain this Copyright %26amp; Publishing thing to me. Thanks.
I already previewed ASCAP.com and called their office, but it was no help (Automated message)

How can I remember song lyrics for thousands of songs for years?
How can I possibly remember the words to a song I haven't heard for twenty years yet I can't remember to mail my sister's birthday card last week?
How can I remember song lyrics for thousands of songs for years?
It's not just repetition, it's emotional involvement and multipath association. The music is a very strong trigger for accessing the words. What's your trigger for mailing the card? Did you put it where you'd notice it while doing something else? Did you mail the card a dozen times while smelling cinnamon?
Reply:years of constant repetition.
Hey, you hear those songs over and over everyday on the same old stuff radio station, and sing along every time. You rmember the triggers in your brain based on the melody, the rhythm, and the words of a poem.
If you set your every day tasks to music, you would remember your "to do" list a lot easier. Wasn't it easier learning the alphabet using the alphabet song? Counting by 5's thanks to Schoolhouse Rock?
Well, okay, so you can't set your "to do" list to music. Second is to get a cubby hole box for your desk and number the cubbies 1 to 31 and put all your things and letters to mail that day in the cubby for that day. Then, every day check your cubby box for bills due, cards to be sent, lists of things to do, and simply reorganize your brain to pay more attention to big details like birthdays and less to "ear worms" of repetetive music loops repeating in your head as you hear snatches of songs along the way.

How do I get someone in the music industry to look at my song lyrics?
I have recently compiled 126 of the lyrics into a collection and had it copyrighted because I was unable to get anyone to give a serious look to even one of my songs. In particular, I've got one song which is far better than the single "standard" holiday song out there. That one especially seems incredibly marketable. Thanks for your help.
How do I get someone in the music industry to look at my song lyrics?
Well, you are on the right track by copyrighting your work. Its tough to be a song-writer these days with so many artist wanting to be independent and writing their own stuff. However, its not impossible.
You have to prove the song is marketable and that's impossible to do with just words on paper. You should create demos of your lyrics in action. This will require music written for your lyrics and a demo singer to bring the words to life. Once you got 3 to 5 of your BEST songs demo'd its time to shop them. There are various ways to do this, a few key websites, trade mags, and tip-sheets that let you know who's-who and who needs what. You must know your genre, and what kind of demand it currently has in the market, find those in that market and get the music in their ears...
I know this a non-detailed version of what to do, but if you're ready to do the work, (that is research and "pound-the-pavement") , this should get you in the right direction...
Reply:First get a copyright to show that those words are yours otherwise they can and will take the lyrics if they are good. I don't know if you would contact management or try to contact a person who you would like to be the singer. Good Luck to you!!

How to write good song lyrics?
I'm writing a song to be played at my wedding. I'm a very experienced songwriter, and have sold a lot of my work, but I've never been any good at lyrics and have had to hire a lyricist. For my wedding, I want to be able to write my own lyrics. Everything I write ends up sounding really cliche and cheesy. How do some of you better lyricists do it?
How to write good song lyrics?
The best way to write anything is by writing things that you know. Things that you have experienced are things that most people can relate to. Most people like songs that they can relate to.
Reply:By living thru alot of bullsh*t.

Can anyone find me the song lyrics to The Dawn of Destruction?
if America doesn't change and me being one of the concerned citizens in it, I find it hard not to say that what was predicted will not come true, this computer and cell phone stuff has so why not the rest of it? I am kind of scared for our world is anyone else out there? What do you think it will be like in the near future if all of the lies and propaganda and warring on the peoples don't stop? Will someone please try to get me these song lyrics?
Can anyone find me the song lyrics to The Dawn of Destruction?
The eastern world, it is explodin'
Violence flarin', bullets loadin'
You're old enough to kill, but not for votin'
You don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin'
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin'
But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.
Don't you understand what I'm tryin' to say
Can't you feel the fears I'm feelin' today?
If the button is pushed, there's no runnin' away
There'll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
Take a look around you boy
It's bound to scare you boy
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.
Yeah, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin'
I'm sitting here just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation
Handful of senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.
Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it's the same old place
The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction
Mmm, no no, you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction.
Reply:The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’
But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.
Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say
Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today?
If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away
There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.
Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’
I’m sitting here just contemplatin’
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don’t pass legislation
And marches alone can’t bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin’
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.
Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space

Dawn of Destruction
by Clairesbest - published: February 14, 2004
So sure we had the power
Never stopping once to think
That the road we walk today,,,
Tomorrow takes us to the brink.
Deaf ears stifle babies crying
Eyes are blind to human need,
Greed engorged on others hunger
What we planted gone to seed.
The lightning cracks and the heavens cry
The demons laugh and the angels sigh,
The silence reigns as the music dies...
And we turn and walk away...
No hesitation, never looking back
The train to hell rides a crowded track
Why take a ten, you can have a jack
There'll be no sun today...
To greet the dawn of our destruction.
A cardboard box for a living room,
A bomber's ravage while you slept...
No sure thing even in the womb
Damn, no wonder Deidre wept.
Die in pain when a pill would ease
Rob a package store for the rent
Don't have the time to hear their pleas
Until all the money's spent.
The lightning cracked and the heavens cried
The demons laughed and the angels sighed,
The silence reigned as the music died...
And we turned and walked away...
No hesitation, never looking back
The train to hell rides a righteous track
Why take a ten, you can have a jack
It's the only way to play...
The dawn of our destruction
The dawn of our destruction
Keep the night 'till we make it right,
(Shine the light) (Fight the fight)
Talk is cheap, good intentions trite,
So listen...(whisper) listen....
Listen for the dawn,
The dawn of our destruction.
Stop the dawn of our destruction

How can I submit my song lyrics for money?
I am looking for some way to make some money on the side, one way I thought would be selling some poems and song lyrics I have wrote! If anyone knows anywhere I can do this, or some way I would be most thrilled!
How can I submit my song lyrics for money?
First be sure to copyright your material. Register through ASCAP or BMI to make your writings 'visible' to others that are in the business and are looking for new talent. If you are near a city that has a recording studio, try to get your 'foot in the door' there; you may be able to get hooked up with someone looking for a good lyrics writer. You do not have to aim for a star either...there are a lot of good start-ups looking for good material to work with. Even the big stars had to start somewhere.
Reply:I would get them copyrighted first, or else if you send 'em, they could use them and not give you anything for it. Moreover, they could claim that it is their original idea. So, a copyright is first off, and that costs money.
Reply:There are many places you see on the net or in magazines. Like the ones that say "Send us your lyrics and we will set them to music.
I have read warnings on this. They just set your lyrics to the same tune that someone else's lyrics are set to also
I was told by a co-author of Elvis's Heartbreak Hotel. Never ever pay anyone for your songs, They should pay you.
I wish you luck in your endeavor.

Song/lyrics?
I just heard a song on the radio earlier today and was wondering if anyone knew the name of it. It's a country song. The first verse talks about James Dean and Natalie Wood and how he was a high school rebel and I think it said she was a high school prom queen. Does this ring a bell to anyone?

How do I get started with selling my song lyrics or colaborating with a producer to shop my songs?
I am a writer (poetry, song lyrics, novels) Im also sing but am interested in shopping and selling the songs that I have written. They have no music with them, though they have a melody and just need excellent production efforts. Is there a place to sell just lyrics or do they need music with them? Just need help getting started. I need honest and trustworthy answers.
How do I get started with selling my song lyrics or colaborating with a producer to shop my songs?
First thing you do is mail the lyrics to yourself. When you recieve them in the mail, don't open the envelope, that way they're copywritten. Then you simply mail off your best lyrics to various artist and Record lables and hope for the best! Good Luck!
Reply:Good News is that now you can sell your lyrics on the Internet.
The Official Selling Lyrics Website is open which is going to be a marketplace for buying and selling lyrics.

How can I use song lyrics in art without copyright trouble?
I want to use some popular song lyrics in some of my art without infringing on copyright laws. Who do I contact? I have tried bmi.com, mpa.org, and other searches. Nada.
How can I use song lyrics in art without copyright trouble?
Please disregard answers regarding referencing as they're incorrect. Simply giving credit does not permit someone to reproduce copyrighted material. If that were the case then there would be nothing to stop you or me releasing the latest Harry Potter book and adding 'words by J K Rowling'.
If the song is copyrighted (and it almost certainly will be) then you need to obtain permission from the copyright holder and get a broadcast or performance license. I think you'll find that this is prohibitively expensive, you're talking several thousand dollars.
As for who to contact - follow the previous answer.
Reply:all you need to do is reference it somewhere- preferably in tiny letters at the botton corner of ypur art.
eg. lyrics from "blah blha" by "yada yada brothers"
Reply:The easiest thing to do is contact the publisher. If you look at the CD, album, etc, you will see, beneath the song title, and the name of the songwriter, the name of a company. You can probably find the contact information for this company on the internet. In fact, it is the job of this publisher to make arrangements of the type of seek to make. Let me warn you though, if it is a major artist (songwriter), they will likely not agree to license your use of the lyrics.
Reply:The other person is right about referencing, but the situation changes if you profit financially from the work. In that instance there would be a case for you owing royalties.

What do i need to ask if someone wants to use my poem as song lyrics?
just found out a musician heard me reading a poem i wrote and would like to turn it into a song. how do i protect my lyrics and myself, make sure if he's making money off of it, i do, etc... what questions do i ask? thanks!
What do i need to ask if someone wants to use my poem as song lyrics?
so the problem is copyrights are "all rights reserved" which is a turn -off for this musician. the answer "some rights reserved"
no way you say
but in fact now at creativecommons.com you can design custom copyrights that allow limited sharing in your defiinitions. the site is easy to understand, legal, and well respected. additionally it probably has just hte thing you are looking for. acongratulations on the poem thoug! what is it about? can i give it a read? BEST OF LUCK!
Reply:It's called a copyright. Contact the library of congress for the proper forms!
Reply:Write your poem on a postcard and mail it to yourself. The postmark will date your lyrics.
Reply:HIRE A LAWYER!!!!!!
Reply:go up to them and say: HI, WILL YOU PUT MY POEMS INTO YOUR SONGS?

How could I translate my song lyrics into German or and/or Japanese?
I would like to know because I've been interested in writing my own song lyrics in different languages especially German (which I'm learning in school) and Japanese. If anyone knows a website or could give me a suggestion then that would be much appreciated!
How could I translate my song lyrics into German or and/or Japanese?
stay away from online translation bots, they mess up every language, if you want your lyrics to be useful learn the language yourself or have it translated by a real human being.
Reply:Go to google, or whatever you favorite online search engine is, then type in something like "free online translators" normally the website will ask you what lanuage you want to translate to, and what language you start off in, so you would probably click on "English to German" or "English to Japanese".
Hope this helps!
Reply:I have done this with many of my songs, I speak english, spanish, and japanese, and the last two are the languages I translate into, however, I am by no means a master of the languages and cannot translate everything off the top of my head. Here are some methods I have found that work fairly well:
1. Study the languages you want to translate into and get at least a rudimentary understanding of the grammar (very important), vocabulary, etc. gaining an intermediate level (beyond hola, adios, etc.) really helps .
2. Take your lyrics (english) to a free web translation site like AltaVista Babel Fish Translation, and translate into the target language there.
3. This is where knowing the target languages comes in - The translator sites mess the lyrics up pretty bad, but most of the time the basic idea gets across into the target language. Now what you do is study the lyrics for mistakes and correct all the ones you can find.
4. If you have a friend or know someone who speaks the language then give them your translated lyrics and have them read over it looking for mistakes. After they laugh at a few of the errors they will correct the few remaining mistakes and you have a perfectly translated piece of music.
Hope this helps - good luck!
Reply:Use Babylon 6 to translate every words and sentences to other languages.Go to www.babylon.com and download it
Reply:Do NOT use automatic translators / online translators. The results are utter rubbish, and if you try it with lyrics the results will be disastrous.
I should think that for lyrics which make sense you need a very proficient level of the language, or you have to be a native speaker. Translation is not a matter of replacing words one by one, it is about transporting the sense and meaning of a text into another language. With lyrics, I'd say it is an art itself.

If I want to publish my work, or send in my song lyrics to be used, where do I go? I really would like to know
I am a songwriter, and I write novels and fanfiction. If I want to publish my work, or send in my song lyrics, where do I send them to?
If I want to publish my work, or send in my song lyrics to be used, where do I go? I really would like to know
You can write lyrics and sell them but it's pretty tough because the competition will be selling a near finished or finished product. You could try approaching a particular artist with your lyrics and see if they'd like to use them but you should be prepared to give up no less than half of the publishing and probably all but 3% of the mechanicals.
Here's a good way to go about it. Buy an inexpensive electronic keyboard and learn some basic piano. (Casio makes a really good one that doesn't cost a lot: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/C... )
Put some melodies and chord changes to your lyrics and seek out a collaborator. Preferably a skilled instrumentalist. (Guitar, or Piano) and record your songs. There's plenty of options available but you'll have to research the best one for you.
Here's a cool place to start.

Reply:It isn't a song unless it is complete. If you are not able to do the music, check out songwriting websites where lyricists can collaborate with musicians and that kind of thing. It is a good place to learn about the business and you may find someone who will work with you. Even then, if you have a song that is finished and you think that Whitney Houston should be the one to sing it or some other supa star, well, you have to make a demo of it and then try and get a music publisher to listen to it. Another way to get your songs out there is to find a band that is up and coming and get them to record your stuff. That may help you to get your foot in the door.
Publishers for stories and such are not the same as music publishers, so you have to find ones that are accepting submissions, follow their guidelines and then maybe they will accept something. It is a long hard row to hoe, so good luck and don't put all your eggs in one basket. : )
Reply:im not sure where to publish work as your but if you ever write any poems you can publish them on poetry.com and compete in contests.
Reply:You don't. There is no one ho publishes just song lyrics. Youu need to have accompanying music. That field is VERY difficult and you usuallly need connecitoons and to know the right people. What I think you mean is that you are a writer of lyrics, but again, unless you have musical acocmpanying them, you are not going to go very far.

I've been writing song lyrics for as long as I can remember. I never keep the lyrics. Lately I've been thinking about sending them to a record company, but I don't know how. I only writ the lyric, no beats or backround music. I right song that can be used as pop or r%26amp;b.

Reply:They won't accept unsolicited artistic material. Like ad agencies and most companies, their employees are probably instructed to return your material unopened or with a note from their attorney. It's one way that they can protect themselves from law suits and misunderstandings.

How do you quote song lyrics inside of an essay?
I want to add the lyrics “Every scene was a sign we made out through their meaning” from the song La La Lie by Jack's Mannequin
How do you quote song lyrics inside of an essay?
If you are using MLA format just put the citation at the end of the song quote like you would do with a book. go to http://easybib.com/MyBib/step2.php This website cites it for you. You just have to fill in the blanks. What they give you here goes in your bibliography at the end of your essay. after the quote put ( first word from bibliography goes here). Hope that helps.
Reply:Just like anything else "BLAH BLAH BLAH" (Artist)

Is there a way to make a powerpoint synchronized with song lyrics?
Kind of like karaoke. The song will play while the lyrics show up on the screen?
Is there a way to make a powerpoint synchronized with song lyrics?
Yes, when saving your powerpoint as a MOVIE you can check options and include a song but be sure to first place enough time with each slide to include the entire song. If you want to include a song with only a power point document you must have the CD in your computer to play without stopping after each slide.
Reply:of course! use the "rehearse" option...you can have each powerpoint slide last however long...then...start the music, start the powerpoint, and click each time you want it to change.
On powerpoint '97, I just click on "slide show" then "rehearse timings" and click the "next" button each time I want it to change.
So it's very easy to do, and requires nothing extra.
Have fun!

I have written a book, a screenplay and song lyrics. How do I get them published if no one will read them?
I ask one publishing company after another and they keep turning me down without even taking the time to read my work, what should I do? Is this world all about the rich and famous and who has the money to pay their way through?
I have been writing song lyrics for 18 years, I just completed my first book, and a screenplay manuscript. They are all in the correct format, the right amount of pages, the entire deal and still, all I get is they are unsolicited! Well what is solicited? I have had agents turn me down without looking at my work as well. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to pay my way through this? Is that what they want is a tip off to get my work and my foot in the door?
I have written a book, a screenplay and song lyrics. How do I get them published if no one will read them?
I can't speak to the screenplay or the song lyrics, but you may want to check your approach to these publishers. Thousands of good book prospects are thrown away without consideration because the manuscript was submitted incorrectly.
Go pick up the Writers Market book at your local book store. It will instruct you on how to approach publishers. It can also help you find an agent, and is an excellent resource for budding writers.
Another avenue is publishamerica.com. It's the closest thing to "self-publishing" there is, without being a "vanity publisher."
You may also want to join an authors group. There is a great one online at www.aboutfreelancewriting.com.
Reply:Send query letters. Keep your query letters as short and to the point as humanly possible. Don't try to be too clever or too cute because we get so many of these each day that we really want to see the nitty gritty concept. Also, I highly suggest that young writers include self-addressed stamped postcards with the query letters [instead of] envelopes. A postcard is a lot easier to respond to.
Reply:If you wanna e-mail me I have a connexion. They deal strictly with new and budding indi artists
Reply:call your local radio station they may help with that
Reply:You will probably want to self-publish. Try Author House.com for the book. Get a reader, editor, usually they charge 35USD and the person will will critique it and send recommendations. If you've been unsuccessful so far, nobody is going to rip you off. Don't give up.
Note: I'm an editor and book doctor, write me an eletter, tell me about your work. I don't solicit work this way, but I'd like to help. bajamom2002@yahoo.com
Reply:hello there I think that is very hard for you and for many persons looking for a publisher for your work I think that maybe you can contact with some writers and talk about your work I think that you need some one that can kick you into the business maybe with someone that have the experience can be more easy, many publishers are looking just for persons that are know in the media but maybe you can try about lyrics I know that some rock stars have some offices for help persons with talent maybe you can try with some one like U2 guys....representative but you need keep the faith about your work and when you don't think that you can find the right way this appear in front of your eyes so good luck in this search and put all your effort with that.
Reply:I've never done anything like that, but I've heard that what they probably want is an outline and the first ten pages before they even ask any questions (about the manuscript). Imagine all the wanna-be writers out there with tons of time on their hands, inspired by the incredible tales already out there. The publishing world is inundated. Try artciles for magazines to start, just to get experience.
The guy who wrote the Wizard of OZ pounded the pavement for ages before getting someone to notice him. Just keep it up.
Sometimes it helps if you have credentials to back yourself up, like a resume with all your accomplishments on it. Remember, these people don't know you from dick (pardon the rudeness) If the link above can help, I wish you every success!
Reply:give it to friends and if they like it post thrm on the internet and offer it up for publishing. maybe you'll get a response from that good luck.

What's the process for getting permission to quote song lyrics in writing a piece of fiction?
Or can anyone remember a piece of fiction that uses a famous song's lyrics? That's for helping my research.
What's the process for getting permission to quote song lyrics in writing a piece of fiction?
Good Omens keeps referring to Bohemian Rhapsody, by Queen. They, (Terry Pratchett, and Neil Gaiman) I belive didn't get permission, based on how they refer to it.
Reply:Generally, a brief passage may be quoted with full attribution as to copyright ownership, authorship and publication details. Excepted would be reviews. Other than that, permission in writing must be sought from the publisher.
Reply:In general quotation does not require permission if it is brief and the source is somehow mentioned. If you want to use a full song you might require permission from the person or company who owns it. You would need to contact that person or company and ask for written permission.

Why can I memorize numbers better than song lyrics?
All my friends seem to know countless song lyrics while I only know a few. However, I hardly need an address book for my cell phone since i've memorized most of the phone numbers. I have so many sets of numbers memorized, from locker combinations from 4 years ago to garage door codes. Am I just using a different part of my brain sort of like how artists do?
Why can I memorize numbers better than song lyrics?
I guess because your are a male person; female mind memorize 'thing' differently that men's mind.
Reply:It has to do with the whole right brain/left brain thing. The left side of the brain is more of the analytical side that can do things like math, memorizing, etc where as the right side is the more creative side that as you said many artists, musicians, etc use. Many people are just stronger on one brain hemisphere than the other and it has nothing to do with anything being wrong with you, but just the way you are.
Reply:Don't think so....the key is repitition. Where they "like" to listen to songs over and over and sing along with them over and over, you have a higher sense of priority in your memorization tactics. The same theory could be applied to math facts and spelling, but they're just not as fun...hence the state of today's youth (sigh). Sorry, didn't mean to go all frustrated parent on ya. If you listen to one song that you like, over and over...and sing along with it....you'll have it memorized so that you can sing it without hearing the music.
Reply:wow, you can be an accountant. dun waste it..

Is it illegal to use portions of familiar song lyrics on retail merchandise without permission?
I would like to design t-shirts for profit with bits of famous song lyrics and famous quotes. Do I need permission from each individual artist or author before doing so?
Is it illegal to use portions of familiar song lyrics on retail merchandise without permission?
Usually the copyright/infringement starts with the 3rd word you copy, however slogan like "got Milk" etc obviously don't have 3 words but are still not allowed to be used without permission.
If you are selling merchandise with out permission, you can be sued, pay heavy fines, and potentially go to jail depending on how it is used.
Always best to get permission and pay the person who wrote the words.
Reply:If it's a copyrighted song, you'll need permission.
Reply:Music is copyrighted. You can't use someone else's lyrics and make money off of them without their permission.

What song lyrics or quotes apply to your life or have helped you in life?
It doesn't just have to be song lyrics, it could also be some music without lyrics that you heard and that helped you somehow.
What song lyrics or quotes apply to your life or have helped you in life?
I've always loved the song FIRE AND RAIN by James Taylor.
"I've seen fire and I've seen rain,
I've seen sunny times that I thought would never end,
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again."
Real friends are with you through good times and bad.
Reply:Well there are three songs that apply. The Fray - How To Save A Life, Saosin - You're Not Alone, and Green Day - Good Riddance ( Time Of Your Life). Each song somehows applies to some parts of my life. The lyrics apply to events in my life and also has helpled me somehow.
Reply:Gospel music, Praise and worship music as it refreshes my spirit man.

Song lyrics?
I'm needing help determining who sings a song and what the song's title is. Unfortunately I only know some of the lyrics, they are: "please tell me why the car is in the front yard and i'm sleeping with my clothes off, i came in through the window last night, now you're gone." I think the artist may be Blink 182 but I'm not sure. If anyone can help... thanks.

My Own Worst Enemy Lyrics
by Lit
Can we forget about the things I said
when I was drunk
I didn't mean to call you that
I can't remember what was said or what you threw at me
Please tell me, please tell me Why
My car is in the front yard,
and I'm Sleeping with my clothes on
Came in through the window last night
And your gone
Gone
It's no suprise to me I am my own worst enemy
'Cause every now and then I kick the living **** out of me
The smoke alarm is going off,
and there's a cigarette Still burning,
Please tell me why my car is in the front yard
and I'm sleeping with my clothes on
came in through the window last night and your gone
gone please tell me why my car is in the front yard
and I'm sleeping with my clothes on
I came in through the window last night
It's no suprise to me
I am my own worst enemy
'Cause every now and then I kick the living **** out of me
Can we forget about the things I said
when I was drunk
I didn't mean to call you that
