What do you think some of the best song lyrics are?

I don't mean funny, i mean like witty or poetic and meaningful.

What do you think some of the best song lyrics are?
Have You Forgotten?

by daryl worley

I hear people saying we don't need this war

I say there's some things worth fighting for

What about our freedom and this piece of ground

We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down

They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in

Before you start your preaching let me ask you this my friend

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?

To see your homeland under fire

And her people blown away

Have you forgotten when those towers fell?

We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell

And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden

Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my T.V.

Said it's too disturbing for you and me

It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say

If it was up to me I'd show it everyday

Some say this country's just out looking for a fight

After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?

To see your homeland under fire

And her people blown away

Have you forgotten when those towers fell?

We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell

And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden

Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers

Who've gone away to war

And you can bet that they remember

Just what they're fighting for

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?

To see your homeland under fire

And her people blown away

Have you forgotten when those towers fell?

We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell

And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden

Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten all the people killed?

Some went down like heros in that Pennsylvania field

Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?

All the loved ones that we lost and those left to carry on

Don't you tell me not to worry about bin Laden

Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?

Really good lyrics by an awesome REPUBLICAN metal band, the song is about the philosophical war between Republicans and Democrats.

Imagine - John Lennon

In The Year 2525 - Zager %26amp; Evans

Reply:Operator, can you help me place this call

You see the number on the matchbook is old and faded

She's living in L.A. With my best old ex-friend Ray

A guy she said she knew well and sometimes hated

Isn't that the way they say it goes but let's forget about that

Give me the number if you can find it

So I can call just to tell them I'm fine and to show

I've overcome the blow, I've learned to take it well

I only wish my words would just convince myself that it just wasn't real

But that's not the way it feels

Operator, could you help me place this call

Cause I can't read the number that you just gave me

There's something in my eyes

You know it happens every time

I think about a love that I thought would save me

Operator, let's forget about this call

There's no one there I really wanted to talk to

Thank you for your time

Cause you been so much more than kind

And you can keep the dime.

Reply:When it comes to witty, poetic and meaningful lyrics, I'd defy anybody to do better than the Rainmakers. Among my favourites are Spite, which is on the first link, and includes this little note:

I seen dreams die, seen folks hated

seen the devil's slogans spray-painted

seen figures of authority saying bad is good

I seen the 6 o'clock news in my own neighborhood

in spite of everything

it's pretty good to be alive

And Siamese Twins, which is on the second link and includes this passage:

This is the story of siamese twins

How a man can be two places at once

When he's home with his lover he's away

Viewing through a two-way mirror

Everything's skewing into distorted visions

Of women-for-men

Coke-bottle lenses for the siamese twins

The third link gives connection to a whole load more of their lyrics. Check out Two Many Twenties on the "Skin" album, and "The Wages of Sin" on "Tornado".

Enjoy!

LOVE THAT SONG.
Reply:"What if God were one of us? Just a stranger on a bus?!" etc. Joan Osborne? Have forgotten her name, but loved the song.

Another favourite of mine is "Cabaret". Love the whole song, but won't bore you with all the lyrics here. I'll choose the ending. You probably know it anyway. It is from memory, so forgive me if I have made any mistake!

"I used to have this girlfriend known as Elsie,

With whom I shared four sordid rooms in Chelsea.

She wasn't what you'd call a blushing flower -

As a matter of fact, she rented by the hour.

The day she died the neighbours came to snicker

"Well, that's what comes from too much pills and liqour!"

But when I saw her laid out like a Queen,

She was the Happiest corpse I'd ever seen!

I think of Elsie to this very day,

I remember how she'd smile at me and say ...

What good is sitting all alone in your room?

Come! Here the music play!

Life iS a Cabaret old chum!

So, come to the Cabaret!

And as for me, and as for me,

I made my mind up, back in Chelsea,

When I goooooooooo,

I'm going like Elsie!

Start by admitting from cradle to tomb,

It isn't that long a stay!

Life is a Cabaret old chum.

It's only a Cabaret old chum!

And I love A CABARET"

oops got carried away there! Was singing it in time to my typing. Have to find the CD and put it on, right now!

When I goooooooooooo -

I'm going like Elsie!
