Song Lyrics?

How do you quote song lyrics? Like for an example, the song lyrics are "You were meant for me"





And in an essay, would I quote it using italics or quotes?





For example, my essay would be:


In her song, she states "you were meant for me". This refers to etc etc.


am i quoting it right?

Technically, you can use either one or the other. It is more common to use quotes as you have done. It would be better to say in your example: She states in her song, " You were meant for me" which refers to... This is clearer, grammatically correct and does not have two commas which make it harder to read. (Versus your: In her song, she states," You were meant for me"...) The word "which" improves the clarity of the sentence. I hope you found this to be of help.
